10/22/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to advise the community that Chief Lloyd Phillips will participate in the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec & Labrador (AFNQL) ‘Special Chiefs Assembly’ taking place from today (Tuesday) to Thursday in Akwesasne.
Agenda items include jurisdiction; education; the political relationships with Quebec and Canada; public security; housing; and youth issues.
“With Canada announcing that their First Nations Education Act is about to be formally introduced and the anti-fracking demonstrations in the Maritimes in the news, we’ll have plenty to discuss,” said Chief Phillips. “Education affects everyone, while the anti-fracking protests involve the Mi’gmaq, whose ancestral territory lies in both Quebec and New Brunswick.”
Chief Phillips will return to the office on Friday. The next AFNQL Special Chiefs Assembly is scheduled for early December.
