Community meeting to discuss tobacco scheduled for November 19th

10/24/2013

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that Chief Billy Diabo, a member of the MCK Tobacco Working Group, will be present at a kiosk at the Services Complex this upcoming Monday to Wednesday, October 28-30th to obtain input on whether the tobacco industry in Kahnawake should be regulated. He will be on site each day from 10am to 4pm.

This is being done in preparation for a community meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 19 Kentenhkó:wa/November to consult with the community on the issue of possible regulation.

“We need community input,” said Chief Diabo. “The Working Group and people from the industry are meeting next month and it’s important that we have a general idea of how the community itself feels on the issue – not just what Council thinks or what the manufacturers and retailers think. We may not get many more chances to try to find a way to work together to defend and promote this important industry.”
