Chief Kirby complaint unanimously dismissed
11/13/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that the disciplinary measures process regarding a complaint against Chief Rhonda Kirby has been completed.
At the duly convened meeting held yesterday (12, Seskehkó:wa/November) the investigator appointed for the process, Attorney-at-Law Rish Handa, presented his final report and recommendations.
The investigator determined that Chief Kirby’s actions were not sufficient to merit an Act of Censure, or to warrant the specific relief sought by the complainant.
In accordance with the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Disciplinary Measures Regulations (“Regulations”), Chief & Council are nonetheless responsible to determine whether an Act of Censure is warranted. Therefore, a secret ballot was conducted, with eleven (11) chiefs voting unanimously against an Act of Censure.
As per the Regulations, the matter is now considered closed.
