Chiefs in Tyendinaga to meet on two issues
11/14/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that Chiefs Bob Patton and Gina Deer are in Tyendinaga to meet on two issues.
The first is a meeting with officials from Enbridge, Inc., a major Canadian pipeline company. This is a follow-up from the September 25th meeting attended by Chiefs Patton and Martin Leborgne.
“We first met with Enbridge through the Iroquois Caucus,” said Chief Patton. “Our goal has always been to gain commitments from the company regardless of whether or not they gain regulatory approval from the National Energy Board for approval for their proposal to reverse the flow and to increase the volume of oil to pass through the pipeline.”
The National Energy Board conducted hearings for that purpose on 9, Kenténha/October in Montreal, at which the MCK was granted intervener status.
The second is a Grand Chiefs’ meeting on tobacco issues. As Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle Jr. was not available, Chiefs Patton and Deer will represent the MCK. Both Chiefs are on the MCK’s Tobacco Working Group.
The Chiefs will return to the office tomorrow.
