The Animal Protection Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke is pleased to introduce a new initiative to benefit Kahnawą:ke′s pet population by hosting a Low Cost Heartworm and Vaccine Clinic on Friday, November 29th. The clinic is a collaboration between Kahnawą:ke Animal Protection and the Vanier College Animal Health Technology program to assess the prevalence of heartworm infection in the local ′at risk′ canine population, offer various treatment options and assess potential human health issues due to parasites. The clinic will be held at the Community Protection Unit building by appointment from 10:30am until 12:30pm on Friday, November 29th. There is a $5 admission fee and a total of 50 dogs can be seen during this period. During each examination veterinarians will do a heartworm test ($10), fecal analysis (please bring fresh stool sample), provide any necessary vaccines ($15) and write prescriptions if medication is needed. All dogs that take part in the clinic will receive a small dog-related gift and their names will be entered into a draw for a Doggy Gift Basket worth $75 courtesy of Boutique Woof! Meow! in Beaconsfield. For appointments or inquiries please contact Assistant Animal Protection Officer Deidra Whyte at 450-632-0635 or email deidra.whyte@mck.ca
