Grand Chief in meetings with three Quebec cabinet ministers
11/25/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. is meeting today with three (3) Quebec cabinet ministers in two separate meetings.
The first, with Aboriginal Affairs Minister Elizabeth Larouche, was held late this morning primarily to discuss the current relationship between Kahnawà:ke and Quebec.
“I believe we had a very good, open dialogue,” said Chief Delisle. ”Minister Larouche seemed to be very open to dealing with our issues, including the problem of excessive bureaucracy – which has been the main cause of frustration in developing a true relationship with this government.”
Minister Larouche made a commitment to return to the community in spring 2014.
A second meeting to discuss issues regarding Highway 30 was scheduled to be held this afternoon between Grand Chief Delisle; Minister Larouche; Industry Minister Elaine Zakaib; Minister Responsible for the Montérégie Marie Malavoy; and representatives from Tewatohnhi’saktha. More information will be made available tomorrow.
