The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that last evening’s visit by CP’s Holiday Train was a success in every way. In what has become an annual tradition, this is the ninth straight year that the train made a stop in Kahnawà:ke.
Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. accepted a cheque for $4,500 from CP on behalf of the Kahnawà:ke Christmas Basket Committee. Approximately $800.00 was also collected on site. Two truckloads of non-perishable food items were collected for the Kahnawà:ke Food Bank. Several toys were also donated.
An estimated crowd of over 250 was in attendance. Volunteers from the MCK, Peacekeepers and Kahnawake Fire Brigade were on site to ensure the evening’s events went smoothly. Organizers distributed 300 hot dogs and candy canes, 250 glow sticks and thirty gallons of hot chocolate.
“This year’s Holiday Train was a huge success, the entertainment from the CP family was great and the turnout was large,” said Chief Clinton Phillips. “People were very generous making this year’s event one of the best ones yet, benefiting both the Kateri Food bank, and the Kahnawà:ke Christmas Basket. A big Niawenhkó:wa goes to CP for their extremely generous donation to help our families in need.”
To date, the CP Holiday Train has raised over $7 million dollars and 3 million pounds of food for local food banks across North America.
