MCK Tobacco Portfolio Chiefs rescind Tobacco Law Regulations request to clear path for expected new submission
12/04/2013
The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to inform the community that the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) tobacco portfolio chiefs have rescinded their application to the KLCC to create legislation for the purposes of regulating Kahnawà:ke’s tobacco industry.
In a letter dated 29, Kentenhkó:wa/November, the five chiefs who hold the tobacco portfolio explained that the tobacco industry is preparing to submit its own request for legislation for tobacco regulations. Therefore, the MCK is rescinding the original request, which was submitted to the KLCC on 3, Ohiarí:ha/June 2013.
“This is the first time that a current submission has been rescinded in order to support a new one on the same issue,” said KLCC Coordinator Kahente Horn-Miller. “While the new submission has not yet been received, this will make it easier to proceed without the obvious complications that would arise with two competing proposals.”
