Changes coming in 2014 to Door-to-Door Recycling Pick-Up schedule
12/11/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that changes are coming in 2014 to the door-to-door Recycling pick-up services.
The changes will involve streamlining the scheduling so that all residents will receive services once per week. Currently, certain areas have their recycling picked up twice per week.
The community will be made up of six sections (see maps on page 2): 1. The north side of the Old Malone Highway, including Sesame Street will receive service on Mondays (see map); 2. The road behind Calico Cottage, Mohawk Trail, OSHA to Clay Valley and Up to Clay Mountains will receive services on Tuesdays (see map); 3. The Old Chateauguay Road will also receive services on Tuesdays (no change); 4. The 207 plus rural areas will receive services on Wednesdays (no change); 5. The new development horseshoe around McGregor’s farm to Indian Way up to the CP tracks will also receive services on Wednesdays (no change); 6. The tunnel all along the Old Malone Highway to the Town Apartments (south side of the Old Malone Highway) will receive services on Thursdays (see map)
“The changes will make our operations much more efficient,” said Environment Portfolio Chief Clinton Phillips. “Many people are already used to once-per-week service, so it’s really a matter of getting used to new schedules and creating new habits. We already have a solid majority of our people participating in recycling, and we expect that to continue.”
The new schedule will take effect on February 3rd, 2014. Anyone with questions should contact the Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office at 450-635-0600 or the Recycling Depot at 450-632-4321.
