Annual Christmas Bird Count in Kahnawake

The Kahnaw�:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to inform Kahnawa′kehr�:non that Bird Protection Quebec will once again conduct its annual Christmas Bird Count in Kahnaw�:ke on Saturday, December 21st. The KEPO has participated in the bird count for several years and supports this initiative which gathers valuable bird population data. 

Two teams will begin at sunrise continuing until late afternoon and cover specific areas in the community.

The Inland Team will consist of Michel Beaupr�, Alison Hackney, Shelley Kirk, Catherine Russell and Tammy Elliott who will be in the areas of:

  • Annabelle Beach, Wigwam Beach, Johnsons Beach & Dell Road
  • St. Isidore Road including Kanawaki Golf Club, Caughnawaga Golf Club, Mohawk Hills Golf Course, and fields at the intersection of Hwy 30.
  • Old railroad tracks
The Seaway Team will consist of Eve Marshall, Nancy Montgomery, Paul Shay, Marie-Claude Roy, Biny Gorter, Rensje Duiven, Neil Bonnema and Nick Bonnema who will be along the North Wall of the St. Lawrence Seaway from the Ste.Catherine locks to the end of the Kahnaw�:ke land base.

The teams have been instructed to stay on the main roads described above so as not to disturb homeowners or private properties.
