Kahnawą:ke takes action against the First Nations Education Act The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community about recent activities taken to oppose the First Nations Education Act (FNEA). The Kahnawą:ke Education Working Group on the FNEA (Working Group) has announced the Kahnawą:ke Position on the First Nations Education Act is being submitted to the federal government. The Kahnawą:ke position is a collective community position that was approved at a Community Assembly held on Wednesday, December 18th, 2013 at Karonhianónhnha School. The position declares that Kahnawą:ke rejects the Act, explains reasons for the rejection, and declares that Kahnawą:ke will take necessary measures to counter the Education Act. As part of the community movement to reject the FNEA, the Working group is asking all people who are against this legislation to participate in a rally on Tuesday, January 28. The event will begin at the Kahnawą:ke Mohawk Bingo Hall located on Highway 138. Participants are asked to arrive at 8:30am so that the rally can begin promptly at 9am. Specific details on the rally will be announced in the days leading up to the event. In addition to all Kahnawakehró:non being strongly urged to attend the rally, the Working Group is also extending an invitation to friends and supporters from neighboring communities to participate in solidarity.
