01/30/2014
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that the Iroquois Caucus will meet in Kahnawà:ke next Wednesday and Thursday, 5-6 Enníska/February, 2014.
Agenda items include the First Nations Education Act; tobacco; health issues; and a proposed free trade agreement between the Caucus communities.
“Of course, it’s going to be a full agenda,” said Chief Martin Leborgne, who is chairing the meetings. “We need to get some results in our battles against the First Nations Education Act, the on-going cuts in health care funding, plus upcoming Federal legislation on tobacco. We all face these issues, and it’s better that we face them together.”
The meetings will be held at Maddie’s Place restaurant from 9am to 4pm both days. Community members are welcome to attend as observers.
The Iroquois Caucus consists of elected Councils from Kahnawà:ke, Akwesasne, Kanesatake, Tyendinaga, Wahta, Six Nations and the Oneida of the Thames.
