Seed Planting and Sprouting Workshops
03/04/2014
The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office, in partnership with Ieiénthos Akotióhkwa, will be hosting two seed planting and sprouting workshops on Thursday, March 13th. The first will take place from noon to 1pm at the Kanien′kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language and Cultural Center library, followed by an evening workshop from 6pm to 7pm at the Environment Office located on Old Chateauguay Road, just across from OCR Necessities and Gas Bar.
This hands-on workshop will include a presentation by Chuck Barnett, a local gardener, who will be speaking about when, what, and how to plant your seeds in preparation for the gardening season ahead. In addition, a demonstration on how to grow sprouts in your home will be provided. Sprouts are a great way to enjoy local greens all year long.
Materials including planting containers, soil, seeds, and a basic sprouter will be provided to participants while supplies last. Information on building your own backyard composter and composting in general will also be provided, as well as snacks and refreshments.
Participants are encouraged to bring extra heirloom seeds that they may have to share and exchange with others though this is not necessary as beginners are also more than welcome.
For further information or to share your ideas for this workshop, please contact the Environment Protection Office at 450-635-0600.
