Reminder - Seed Planting and Sprouting Workshops this Thursday

The Kahnaw�:ke Environment Protection Office, in partnership with Iei�nthos Akoti�hkwa, wishes to remind community members that they will be hosting two seed planting and sprouting workshops this Thursday, March 13th. The first will take place from noon to 1pm at the Kanien′keh�:ka Onkwaw�n:na Raotiti�hkwa Language and Cultural Center library, followed by an evening workshop from 6pm to 7pm at the Environment Office located on Old Chateauguay Road.

This hands-on workshop will include a presentation by local gardener Chuck Barnett who will be speaking about when, what, and how to plant your seeds in preparation for the upcoming gardening season. There will also be a demonstration on how to grow sprouts in your home to provide local greens to enjoy all year long.

Materials including planting containers, soil, seeds and a basic sprouter will be provided to participants while supplies last, as well as information on building your own backyard composter and composting in general. Snacks and refreshments will be served.

Participants are encouraged to bring extra heirloom seeds that they may have to share and exchange with others, though this is not necessary as beginners are also more than welcome.
