The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to offer its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mohawk Council of Kanehsatá:ke Chief Clarence Simon, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 64. At the time of his death he was still serving as an elected chief.
Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. is sending a letter of condolence to his family on behalf of Kahnawà:ke.
Chief Simon served as an elected leader for many years and was well respected by his peers. Kanehsatá:ke Grand Chief Serge Otsi Simon stated in a letter to his community that “some of the struggles he went through over the years would have crushed any other man, but he continued to keep his promise to go on,” despite his illness.
Those wishing to pay their respects can do so at Les Salon Funéraires Guay, 156 rue Notre Dame in Oka. The funeral home will be open on Thursday from 2pm to 5pm and again from 7pm to 11pm. It will also be open from 9:30am on Friday morning.
Funeral services will be held at the Oka United Church on Friday, March 21 at 2pm, to be followed by burial at the Pine Hill Cemetery.
