Ice breaking begins on Chateauguay River

03/26/2014

The Community Protection Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform community members that a Canada Coast Guard hovercraft has begun breaking the ice near the Chateauguay River along the northwest border of the Territory today and, for safety reasons, the area should be avoided.

The work is an emergency measure taken by the municipality of Chateauguay to prevent flooding of the Chateauguay River. Preliminary work began this morning and will continue until the river has been completely opened.

Further information can be obtained by calling Arnold Lazare at the Community Protection Unit 450-632-0635 or emailing arnold.lazare@mck.ca.
