KCSC, MCK issue Joint Statement on tabling of Education Act in Parliament
04/09/2014
The Kahnawą:ke Combined Schools Committee (KCSC) and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that Bernard Valcourt, the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, announced today that the First Nations Control of First Nations Education Act will be tabled in Parliament tomorrow (April 10, 2014).
The Federal Government has not met its obligations or duty to consult with the true rights holder in this situation, which is the community of Kahnawą:ke and not the Assembly of First Nations, said Grand Chief Michael Ahrķhron Delisle, Jr. The KCSC and the MCK are jointly informing the community that a political strategy meeting was scheduled and will continue today as planned between the KCSC, MCK and the Kahnawą:ke Education Working Group. Please be reminded that the opposition to the First Nations Control of First Nations Education Act remains of the highest priority.
We ask the community to remain involved and trust that we will keep everyone informed of all activities, including decisions, actions, and outcomes from todays political strategy meeting.
