Closures and Upcoming Work Blitz on Mercier Bridge

04/14/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) wishes to inform road users of upcoming important work on the Mercier Bridge. The MCK has been advised in advance by the Jacques Cartier & Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) that they are planning a Work Blitz lasting approximately seven (7) weeks, most likely to begin on Saturday, June 21st. JCCBI should announce the finalized plans by mid-April and the MCK will notify the community immediately.

In addition to the Blitz, the Ministčre des Transport du Quebec (MTQ) require weekend closures of both Kahnawą:ke-bound lanes in the coming weeks on the following schedule:

  • Friday, April 18th, 5am, to Tuesday, April 22nd, 5 am;
  • Friday, April 25th, 10pm, to Monday, April 28th, 5am;
  • Friday, May 2nd, 10pm, to Monday, May 5th, 5am;
  • Friday, May 9th, 10pm, to Monday, May 12th, 5am;
  • Friday, June 6th, 10pm, to Monday, June 9th, 5am;
Without the threat of snowfall, one lane in each direction on the Montreal-bound span will always be open to vehicles accessing the bridge.

The MCK, JCCBI and MTQ will be working closely together to ensure that information on bridge work is posted in as timely a manner as possible. Motorists can visit Quebec 511, www.mercierbridge.ca and www.kahnawake.com for the latest updates as they become available.

JCCBI will also launch an information campaign within the coming weeks.

The MCK reminds the public that works/closures on the Mercier Bridge are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression, and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
