Mercier Bridge Blitz work details

04/23/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform road users that the Jacques Cartier & Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) has finalized details of the upcoming ‘Blitz’ work scheduled for seven (7) weeks from Saturday, June 21st to Sunday, August 10th.

A complete replacement of the concrete deck of the Kahnawà:ke-bound span is necessary and therefore, will require the complete closure of those lanes (see photo). One lane in both directions will be available for traffic on the Montreal-bound span.

To ease traffic congestion, the following remedial measures will be in effect:

•    A ban on trucks during peak rush hour periods of 5am to 9am, and 3pm to 7pm (detour to Champlain Bridge and/or Highway A30);
•    A reserved bus lane for commuters using public transit (which will provide privileged access to the bridge ramp); and
•    Additional rail cars to the AMT Candiac Line.

In addition to the Blitz, the Ministère des Transport du Quebec requires weekend closures of both Kahnawà:ke-bound lanes (with one lane available in both directions on the Montreal-bound span) in the coming weeks on the following schedule:

•    Friday, April 25th, 10pm, to Monday, April 28th, 5am;
•    Friday, May 2nd, 10pm, to Monday, May 5th, 5am;
•    Friday, May 9th, 10pm, to Monday, May 12th, 5am;
•    Friday, June 6th, 10pm, to Monday, June 9th, 5am;

The MCK, JCCBI and MTQ will be working closely together to ensure that information on bridge work is posted in as timely a manner as possible. Motorists can visit Quebec 511, www.mercierbridge.ca, www.kahnawake.com or follow Twitter hashtag #MercierBridge for the latest updates as they become available. Visit www.kahnawaketv.com for interviews about the Blitz work with MCK and JCCBI representatives.

The MCK reminds the public that works/closures on the Mercier Bridge are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression, and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
