MCK begins preliminary work on exciting new Housing initiative
04/24/2014
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that the MCK Housing Department and Steelhawk Homes have begun preliminary work on an innovative project.
HOPE (Home Ownership Program Enhancement) is being developed to address the need for increased social housing within the community, with special programs to be available to low income families. The new program will be administered by the Social Development Unit Committee.
“Steelhawk Homes will be contributing houses for the exclusive purpose of the HOPE social housing fund,” said Alexis Shackleton, Director of the MCK’s Social Development Unit. “We’re really excited about this project, as it is a fine example of a private sector/public sector partnership that will benefit the community as a whole.”
Steelhawk Homes is a new Kahnawà:ke company that is specializing in prefabricated buildings designed to provide affordable, sturdy and attractive homes. The company is hosting an open house today through Saturday at their location next to Playground Poker.
While there is an agreement in principle between the MCK and Steelhawk Homes, a formal announcement will be made once the agreement is signed.
