Important information regarding Police Operation in Akwesasne and the Montreal

This is a joint release between the Kahnawake Peacekeepers and the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke.

The Kahnawake Peacekeepers and the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke would like to inform community members that a police operation targeting tobacco and organized crime has taken place today in several Montreal area communities, as well as Akwesasne. This operation did not involve the participation of the Kahnawake Peacekeepers, nor were any operations conducted within the Territory.

The Kahnawake Peacekeepers have been notified by the Suret� du Quebec that warrants have been issued for a number of Kahnawa�kehr�:non in relation to today�s events.

Those who have had tobacco-related warrants issued against them will be contacted directly by outside authorities. Although the MCK has consistently expressed support for the tobacco industry, it is difficult to offer more than moral support without proper regulation of the industry.
