Court of Kahnawake Crown Prosecutor leaves for new position in Alberta

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke wishes to inform the community that Court of Kahnawą:ke Crown Prosecutor Catherine Gagnon has resigned from her position and has accepted a position with the Alberta Attorney Generals Office to act as Prosecutor for the Province in Fort McMurray.
She has been the Prosecutor in Kahnawą:ke since May of 2011. She had previously acted as prosecutor and defense attorney providing services in northern Quebec. She also acted as in-house counsel for the Blainville Police Department.
Catherine has expressed her sincere gratitude for having the opportunity to work in Kahnawą:ke, said Ron Skye, the MCKs Director of Justice Services. She stated that she learned certain values of Mohawk culture and our people that she will carry with her. We wish her great success in her new position.
In her absence and until the summer recess, Court of Kahnawą:ke prosecution duties will be assumed by the firm of Morneau, LEcuyer, La Leggia, Rouleau and Associates. A decision on her replacement will be made at a later date.
