MCK to move forward with digital billboard lease, with community to benefit
05/06/2014
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Chief & Council have signed an Executive Directive to support and enter into a lease agreement with a company that will erect a digital billboard on common land along Highway 132. The land being designated, on SLS Lot 10-3, is not considered suitable for residential use.
The company, Cieslok Media, approached Tewatohnhi’saktha several months ago with a project proposal. It was then brought to the MCK for discussion and formal approval.
The agreement will provide the community with annual revenues, while Cieslok is responsible for installation and operation of the sign itself. Additionally, there may be other opportunities with the company that could prove beneficial to Kahnawà:ke, which would be explored on a case-by-case basis.
The project will involve very minimal land use. An interesting clause in the agreement will allow the MCK to utilize the billboard for community messaging.
Chief & Council were unanimous in their support for this initiative, which was obtained through the work of the MCK and Tewatohnhi’saktha.
The project is expected to begin in several weeks.
