MCK pays tribute to former Grand Chief Andrew Delisle Sr

05/09/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is advising the community that, due to budget constraints, the Elder/Political Advisor position at the MCK has not been renewed. As a result, former Grand Chief Andrew T. Delisle, Sr. is leaving his permanent/part-time position with MCK.

“Andrew isn’t retiring, he’s just going to be concentrating on some of the projects he’s already working on away from the MCK,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. “Even at his age, he’s very active in national, political, and gaming activities and local fundraising efforts. We’ve been fortunate to be able to tap into his wealth of knowledge and experience on a regular basis for many years.”

It is expected the former Grand Chief could be called upon if circumstances or situations dictate.

“Andrew truly embodies the term ‘elder statesman’,” concluded the current Grand Chief. “He has always been a great ambassador for the community. At an age when most people are reflecting on their life’s work, he continues to bring new ideas and energy to his. We wish him the very best.”

After serving nine terms on Council beginning in 1960 – including seven terms as Grand Chief – Mr. Delisle moved to the private sector in 1982. He returned to political work in 1997 and had held the position of Elder/Political Advisor since 2002.
