06/26/2014
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that it has finalized an agreement with SteelHawk Homes to launch Project HOPE. Groundbreaking for the first of four (4) new homes took place today in the New Development at Lot 106 (“South Texas”).
Three of the four homes will be donated by SteelHawk, while the fourth will be purchased by the MCK’s Housing department.
The HOPE Program is a four-year project featuring affordable housing, training/education and home ownership savings plan targeted to eligible Kahnawa’kehró:non single parents with children who are willing to improve their present circumstances, and their children’s futures, by working towards attainable goals through the enhancement of their marketable skill set.
“We are anticipating that Project HOPE will grow to service single parent families for years to come,” said Housing Portfolio Chief Martin Leborgne. “Hats off to our Housing department for continuing to find creative solutions to help address our needs.”
“We think this is another step in the right direction and we commend Steelhawk for their participation and, especially, their generous donation to kick off the program,” he added.
SteelHawk is a Mohawk-owned and operated company that designs and builds homes using innovative light steel structure technology. The company is located near the Playground Poker complex on Highway 138 in Kahnawà:ke.
