MCK congratulates Team Kahnawake Parade tonight at 6 pm

07/29/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK) wishes to congratulate Team Kahnaw:ke and Team Eastern Door & the North for their excellent performance at the 2014 North American Indigenous Games (N.A.I.G.). Team EDN placed fourth overall with a total of 58 medals: 20 gold, 21 silver and 17 bronze.

This was their highest finish ever. The Kahnaw:ke contingent played a major role in the success of the larger Team Eastern Door & the North.

This has certainly been a proud week for our community, said Grand Chief Michael Ahrhron Delisle, Jr. The level of success we have seen from our young people is astounding, to say the least. Congratulations to all of the athletes, regardless of whether they won medals or not. Theyre all winners in my book.

The MCK would also like to acknowledge the hard work of the coaches, Dave Canadian, the Mission staff, the volunteers, parents, and anyone associated with the teams. Chiefs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer and Carl Horn were part of the Mission staff.

There are literally too many people to thank, especially when you think of those who organized and contributed to the fundraising efforts in the months prior to the Games, Grand Chief Delisle concluded. It was truly a community effort we can all share in.

There will be a parade to honor our returning Team Kahnawake athletes and coaches on Tuesday, July 29th at 6 pm starting at the tunnel. Please bring signs and flags to show your support and congratulate our medalists. Any extra trucks for them to stand in will be great as well. Official Team Kahnaw:ke apparel is still available at the Sports Complex. The proceeds from all merchandise go towards covering expenses from the North American Indigenous Games.
