Attention - important notice regarding next Community Meeting
09/11/2014
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to remind Kahnawa’kehró:non that next Tuesday’s Community Meeting agenda will consist solely of Land Allotments and Membership. Specifically, Chief & Council will discuss community engagement and strategies in regard to the recent issue of persons residing on the Territory in contravention of the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law.
The MCK also wishes to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that only persons appearing on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry (“Registry”) will be eligible to attend this meeting. In this instance the directive will include participants, resource persons and media.
Community Meeting guidelines already exist but there has always been some discretion allowed in their application. In this instance, Chief & Council felt that, due to the issue, it was best to implement this directive.
Any person who is unsure of his/her status on the Registry should contact the Membership Department for confirmation. The office is located at the Social Development Unit at the Services Complex. They can be reached at 450-638-0500.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7pm next Tuesday, September 16th at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
