Meeting next Tuesday for those not supportive of residency ineligibility of Membership Law
09/24/2014
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that a discussion forum for persons who have an alternate viewpoint on the non-Native residency ineligibility of the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law will take place at 7pm next Tuesday at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
This forum is a direct follow-up to the September 16th Community Meeting, where it was agreed that more open dialogue and discussion was required on this matter.
This event will not be a debate but, rather, an opportunity for those who are not in support of the residency requirements to present their thoughts and ideas to Chief & Council in a respectful forum. Those affected will be welcome, whether or not they are listed on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry.
“The MCK is also working with the local media to schedule some moderated debates so that community members can hear both sides of the issue,” said Membership Portfolio Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer. “It’s always in everyone’s best interest to keep an open mind in order to make the best decisions possible.”
Dates for the debates will be announced as they become finalized.
