Chiefs Leborgne, Patton to meet with Enbridge
09/24/2014
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to advise the community that Chiefs Martin Leborgne and Bobby Patton will be in Kingston, Ontario tomorrow (Thursday) to meet with officials of Enbridge Energy.
The meeting is a roundtable discussion involving all Native communities located along the Enbridge pipeline.
“We have continuously brought forward concerns that the community of Kahnawà:ke put forward,” said Chief Patton. “We have been holding Enbridge accountable and having each concern met, as well as having them recognize that the Iroquois people own the title and rights to the land where the pipeline is located at the present time.”
“This meeting will give us the opportunity to inform other communities on our stance on the issue,” he added. “While we are not here as part of an official Iroquois Caucus delegation, I’d like to point out that the Caucus very much supports Kahnawà:ke’s position.”
The chiefs are being accompanied by MCK technician Dennis Diabo for the meeting. All will return to the offices on Friday.
