Mercier Bridge closures for weekend, preparation begins this evening

09/24/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) has been informed by the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated and the Ministère des Transports du Quebec that the Mercier Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Friday, September 26th at 10pm until Monday September 29th at 5am.

The Montreal-bound Route 132 up ramp will also be closed during the work and motorists will be detoured to the service road towards Route 138 and a marked turn-around at the intersection of Blind Lady’s Hill near the Kahnawake Peacekeeper Station. The work is necessary for inspection and steel structure reinforcement purposes.

Additionally, the Montreal-bound span will be reduced to one lane too allow for preparatory work and is scheduled to begin this evening (September 24th) and Thursday, September 25th from 9pm until 5am on each following mornings. The Montreal-bound Route 132 up ramp will also be closed during this time with the same detour as the weekend work.

Please note: the detour enters the 138 Re-surfacing Project work zone where milling and re-asphalting of the road base is taking place and lanes are reduced to one lane in each direction. However, the work is at night and traffic is expected to be minimal.

The MCK reminds the public that works/closures on the Mercier Bridge are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression, and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
