Essential Snow Removal Program for Elderly and Disabled returns for 2014-2015

The Special Projects Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that the Essential Snow Removal service for low income elderly and disabled community members will be in operation from December 1st, 2014 to March 31st, 2015.
The snow removal is intended for low-income community members without any able-bodied relatives to assist them. The service will provide access to residences for emergency services and includes clearing of the driveway and/or walkway and steps. The program is accepting a maximum of 65 clients; previous clientele will need to re-apply for this service.
Applications forms can be picked up at the MCK main reception beginning today, Wednesday, October 1st, and submitted no later than Friday, October 31st at 4pm. No applications will be accepted after this date.
All Kahnawa’kehró:non who are on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry and who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for the service:
• A person 65 years of age or older or a person who is physically disabled. o The person/couple is someone who lives alone with limited income and has little or no extended family. o The person/couple is someone who has a medical problem (either short term or long term). o The person/couple is someone who has no family to look out for their well–being.
All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee. Applications may be submitted by mail to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, PO Box 720 Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Territory, by fax 450-638-5958 or delivered to MCK Reception, c/o Sandra Schurman.
