Mercier Bridge closures for Thanksgiving weekend

10/09/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) has been informed by the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated that the Mercier Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Friday, October 10th at 10pm until Monday, October 13th at 12 noon.

The Montreal-bound Route 138 up-ramp from Chateauguay will also be closed during this time. Motorists affected by the ramp closure will be detoured onto the service road towards Route 132 to utilize the up-ramp coming from La Prairie. The Kahnawake Peacekeepers will be monitoring the detour route to ensure safety and the flow of traffic.

The closure will allow the contractor to complete intensive reinforcement work on the steel structure of the Seaway section of the bridge.

It is strongly suggested that motorists utilize the Champlain or Jacques Cartier bridges due to the work being scheduled on a holiday weekend when there is usually a higher congestion of traffic.

The MCK reminds the public that works/closures on the Mercier Bridge are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression, and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
