11/07/2014
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. has sent a response to an editorial in the National Post entitled ‘The Kahnawake Mohawk council vs. basic human rights’ published in the Thursday, November 5th edition of the paper.
The editorial writer, Marni Soupcoff, hopes that the Canadian courts will “not tolerate legal discrimination based on race.”
“There is no way that we were going to allow this uninformed attack on what we consider the integrity of our community to go without responding,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. “Because the National Post is published as a national newspaper, its editorials carry a certain level of influence across Canada. As such, we have an obligation to correct certain misinformation and to explain our position and the history behind it.”
The complete letter to the editor is attached. It has been submitted to the National Post for their consideration.
