Seigneury Consultations officially begin
12/03/2014
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community that Consultations on the Seigneury of Sault St. Louis (SSSL) land grievance officially got underway last night at the Golden Age Club with approximately 30 community members present.
The Consultation Session included an update from Council on the progress and details of negotiations, followed by a dialogue on options for moving forward on Lands. Discussion was respectful and included diverse opinions from community members on how to resolve the Lands issue.
“Those who attended the meeting made it very clear that land is still very much the priority in terms of resolving the Seigneury grievance," said Grand Chief Mike Delisle Jr. "It is extremely important that we hear from more community members on how exactly we, as a community, want to progress on the Lands issue.”
SSSL Consultations will be ongoing over the coming months, and will focus on a Land component of a possible settlement. The Seigneury Consultation Team will be reaching out to Community organizations, families and other groups to schedule group or private sessions at your convenience.
“The Seigneury Community Consultation Session was a good launch and starting point for conversation with the community on lands. We look forward to continuing the discussion with the community through the next couple of months,” continued the Grand Chief. There are three convenient ways Community members and Groups can schedule a session: Call 450-632-7500; email sssl@kahnawakeclaims.com or; fill out the online form at www.kahnawakeclaims.com .
