Mercier Bridge work CANCELLED for tonight

12/10/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) wishes to inform road users that, due to weather conditions, the Ministčre des Transport du Quebec has POSTPONED tonight’s scheduled closure of the Mercier Bridge down ramp towards Chāteauguay (138/132 west) and the closure of one lane on the down ramp in the La Prairie direction (132 east).

Other closures scheduled for this week are as follows:

  • Thursday, December 11th from 10pm to 5am - One Kahnawą:ke-bound lane of the Bridge will be closed for preparatory work.
  • 10pm Friday, December 12th, to 5am Monday, December 15th - Complete closure of both Kahnawą:ke -bound lanes of the Bridge. No traffic towards the South Shore - both Montreal-bound lanes will be open.
This one direction only configuration will ensure road users’ safety in case of bad weather and will facilitate snow removal and de-icing operations that might be required. These operations cannot be properly performed when the bridge is re-configured to one lane in each direction, due to the reduced width of the lanes, which is inadequate for snow removal vehicles.

Other lane closures might be necessary for such work in the coming weeks.

The MCK reminds the public that works/closures on the Mercier Bridge are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression, and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
