Power outage impact status
01/05/2015
The Community Protection unit has been monitoring yesterday′s freezing rain situation. On Sunday, January 5th between 11am and midnight, approximately 1800 Kahnawà:ke homes lost electricity at some point due to the freezing rain.
Unfortunately this storm caught many homeowners by surprise and serves as a reminder that everyone should plan to be self-sufficient for at
least 72 hours.
Homeowners who regularly get water in their basements should have a backup battery sump pump system in place. During cold weather, an alternate heating system that is safe is a definite necessity.
During power outages, please remember to check on elderly family members as they habitually do not request assistance.
With fluctuation in temperatures, water breaks can also be expected. If you notice any issues or abnormalities please contact the Town Garage at (450) 632-5825.
In the event that this last power outage would have continued, the Community Emergency Planning Committee is set up to provide shelter to those requiring it.
