REVISIONS to January Legislative Calendar

The Kahnaw�:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission would like to inform the community of revisions to the legislative events planned or scheduled for Tsothohrk�:wa/January 2015 contained in a January 6th release (January Legislative Calendar). Please see revised items in purple below:

1. POSTPONED - January 12: Mohawk Council Resolution to enable the Coming Into Force of the Kahnaw�:ke Justice System Law (usually referred to as the �Justice Act�) scheduled to be brought to Chief & Council at Council Meeting for their consideration (date to be confirmed)
2. January 21: Community Decision Making Process (CDMP) Second Hearing of proposed amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke Election Law. If necessary, a second hearing will be scheduled for soon afterward
3. January 23: 30-Day Community Feedback Period ends for draft amendments to the Kahnaw�:ke Membership Law. Once this is completed, a report will be prepared before the process enters CDMP First Reading
4. ADDED - January 28: Follow-up meeting of the Community Decision Making Process (CDMP) Second Hearing of proposed amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke Election Law (see #2).

The proposal to develop a law to create Tobacco Regulations using the CDMP Urgent Process is ongoing. The Report on Community Feedback was completed just before the Holiday break. Community members are urged to view the report in preparation for the upcoming Community Consultations phase in early 2015.

A proposed Residency Law has been submitted and is awaiting formal approval from the Kahnaw�:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission.
