Seigneury Consultation Phase on Lands coming to a close

01/28/2015

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that the Seigneury of Sault St. Louis Consultation Phase on Lands will be coming to a close in the beginning of February.

Once this phase is completed, the MCK will compile all the community feedback and make a summary and full report on the consultations available to the community. Additionally, the MCK will hold a final public meeting to confirm the opinions, suggestions and ideas heard during the current phase of consultations.

“The MCK will use the consultation results to inform negotiations positions,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. “Wrapping up the Lands consultations at this point in time will help advance discussions on these matters at the negotiations table.  We will come back to the community as negotiations progress.”

“We’ve received some excellent and constructive feedback, but we could use more,” added Grand Chief Delisle. “We haven’t set an absolute final date for the end of this current phase in case we receive a substantial number of last-minute requests from community members to participate. With that in mind, those wishing to take part in the consultations must call before the end of this week (Friday, 30 Tsothohrkó:wa/January 2015).”

The next step in the Seigneury of Sault St. Louis Consultations will focus on Legal Issues. The MCK is expecting to launch this phase as early as mid-March.
