KEPO seeking assistance for Eel study
02/10/2015
The Kahnawake Environment Protection Office (KEPO) is seeking the assistance of the community during a short-term American Eel study.
KEPO would like to hear your experiences and recollections in regards to eel fishing in Kahnawà:ke. Community members and local fisherman/fisherwomen are being invited to share their stories with us in the form of an interview.
Recent studies have shown a substantial decline in the American Eel population throughout the St. Lawrence Seaway including the Great Lakes region throughout the years. Threats to this species have been linked to habitat loss, pollution, and hydropower dams just to name a few.
If you would like to participate, please contact Skahentiioah Laborgne before Friday, February 27th at (450) 638-9802 or by email at s_laborgne@hotmail.com to schedule an appointment time for an interview.
