02/10/2015
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to remind Kahnawa’kehró:non that an important meeting for a proposed law to regulate the Kahnawà:ke tobacco industry is scheduled for tonight (February 10, 2015) at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Participation is open to Kahnawa’kehró:non who appear on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry.
The purpose of this Community Consultation meeting is to gain approval to move the law forward through the Community Decision Making Process and to approve the urgency of the law in order to enact legislation within a shorter timeframe than the regular process.
The proposed law was formally submitted to the Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) last year by the Kahnawake Tobacco Association, who has been participating jointly with the MCK in a working group to create a Tobacco Law. Representatives from both organizations will make presentations at the beginning of tonight’s meeting.
The meeting will be held from 6 to 8:30pm. Those planning to attend are urged to visit the KLCC website,www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com , to view all of the relevant documents.
