Free Training for Kahnawake Contractors

04/15/2015

The Kahnaw:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO), in conjunction with Biofilia, is offering a training session on Construction and Remediation Techniques when working in or near water.

The intent of the training session is to protect the environment during construction projects. The session will take place at the Kahnawake Golden Age Club from 9am until 4pm on Thursday, May 7th.

Topics covered will include:
    A discussion of strategies for reducing erosion and controlling sediment on project sites;
    Ways to remediate watercourses that are experiencing erosion; and
    A review of the Kahnaw:ke Best Management Practices for Undertaking Work in and Around Water.

The training will consist of classroom and field visits led by an expert in the field to illustrate both successful construction projects and creek sections that may require additional work. Lunch will be provided.

Without proper care, creek and wetland alteration can lead to costly on-going maintenance, flooding, erosion, loss of land and environmental damage. Local contractors involved in construction activities in Kahnaw:ke and/or Tiower:ton are strongly encouraged to attend.

Registration is free. However, space is limited. Please register by Friday, April 24th. For complete details on the training and to register please email environment.protection@mck.ca or call KEPO directly at 450-635-0600.
