The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that Heritage Canada’s Assistant Deputy Minister Hubert Lussier and Director General William Fizet will be visiting the community tomorrow (Friday, 17 Onerahtókha/April) to become better informed about Kahnawà:ke’s language revitalization initiatives.
Heritage Canada’s Glen Karonhiio Cross-Morrison, who has family from Kahnawà:ke, will also participate. He played a major role in organizing the visit.
“We welcome any officials who have a sincere interest in these efforts and may, at some point, be able to provide assistance in this important matter,” said Language Portfolio Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer. “The effort to bring Kanien’kéha back to its rightful place in the community is – and has been – a massive undertaking, and any and all support would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully this visit may open some doors for us.”
The agenda includes visits to Karonhianónhnha School, the Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Culture and Language Center, Karihwanoron Immersion School and the MCK’s Language and Culture Training Program.
