MCK introduces new Interim Landfill Coordinator
05/27/2015
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that Ms. Tracey Snow has been named to the position of Interim Landfill Coordinator, replacing Ms. Theresa Delisle, who now returns to her original position with the MCK’s Strategic Organizational Development Unit.
Ms. Snow will work directly with the Landfill Authority, an ad-hoc administrative body created to provide greater oversight in the landfill approval processes.
On June 24, 2014, new interim measures and policies – including the appointment of the Landfill Authority – were developed and put in place to provide better mechanisms to ensure that all landfill materials entering the Territory meets proper standards for safety and acceptability. This was done in the wake of the December 2013 suspension of all landfill activities within the Territory amidst allegations of various compliance issues.
“We’d like to thank Theresa Delisle for stepping up from her regular job during the past year to help in the resumption of limited landfill operations,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. “And we’d like to thank Tracey Snow for bringing her experience and enthusiasm to her new position. There is still work to be done to get the landfill situation back on proper footing, but we feel confident that Tracey’s appointment as a key member of the team is a significant step forward.”
Ms. Snow has worked within the MCK operations for the past 14 years. She has also been a volunteer Conservation Officer since 2005.
