Kahnawake Canada Relations process gets three year extension
06/02/2015
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that the federal government has agreed to extend the Kahnawà:ke/Canada Relations process for a second three-year period.
The Kahnawà:ke Canada Relations process was first signed as a Memorandum of Understanding on February 16, 2012 by Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. and then-Minister of Aboriginal Affairs John Duncan. It was created as a means of developing approaches and options for land management in Kahnawà:ke and responding to issues regarding Membership.
“The notice of the extension was signed by the current Minister of Aboriginal Affairs, Bernard Valcourt,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. “We’re hopeful that this is a first step towards much needed face-to-face discussions with the Minister himself on the issues we need to address.”
The new agreement expires in June 2018.
