Number of thefts in Tioweró:ton

06/05/2015

The Tioweró:ton Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is informing the community that there have been a number of rash break-ins and thefts from cabins in Tioweró:ton over the last few weeks.

Caretakers have been in contact with those who are affected and the Kahnawake Mohawk Peacekeepers (“Peacekeepers”) have a number of open cases under investigation.

The Peacekeepers are requesting assistance from cabin owners who utilize trail cameras as a hidden security tool, to come forward with footage or photos. To date, several pieces of evidence have been collected, including fingerprints. However, any witness or visual evidence will assist with apprehending the culprit.

Although the Caretakers maintain a close watch over the entire Territory, the ultimate responsibility for the safety of each cabin is up to the owner. Caretakers are recommending that dangerous and/or valuable belongings not be kept in cabins, such as firearms or electronics.

For more information, you can contact a Caretaker at the main entrance by calling (819) 321-3375 or the Tioweró:ton Coordinator at (450) 638-8244. If you have any information that will assist with any of these investigations, please contact the Peacekeepers at (450) 632-6505.
