06/16/2015
The Housing Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to invite the Community to view the four brand new homes built as part of the Home Ownership Program Enhancement, commonly referred to simply as HOPE.
The new homes are located in the New Development at Lot 106 in the ′South Texas′ area. Events are taking place over a three day period on the following schedule:
- Thursday – June 25th – 1pm to 4pm (official opening ceremony)
- Friday – June 26th – 9am to 12pm (open to public)
- Saturday – June 27th – 11am – 3pm (open to public)
HOPE is a four-year project featuring affordable housing, training/education and a home ownership savings plan for Kahnawa’kehró:non single parents with children.
Part of an innovative collaboration, three of the four homes were donated by SteelHawk Homes and the fourth was purchased by the MCK Housing Department.
“SteelHawk, a private Mohawk-owned and operated company, has been a great partner in establishing this program with us,” said Director of Social Development Alexis Shackleton. “They showed an extraordinarily high level of commitment that was very much appreciated. This project is proof that the public (MCK) and private sectors can work together in new and exciting ways for the betterment of the community.”
The inaugural HOPE participants are expected to move into the new homes by July 1st.
