Mercier Bridge eight week Blitz to begin Friday

06/18/2015

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke wishes to remind road users that the Jacques Cartier & Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) 2015 Work Blitz on the Mercier Bridge is scheduled for eight (8) weeks beginning Friday, June 19th at 9pm and ending Monday, August 17th at 5am.

Detailed plans for the Blitz are as follows:

  • There will be one lane available in each direction at all times;
  • The Montreal-bound 138 up-ramp from Chateauguay will be closed, with a detour to the 132 up-ramp via the 132 to 138 service road; and
  • The 132 to 138 service road will be detoured towards the Old Malone Highway.
In addition to the configuration, the following modifications will be implemented during the Blitz:
  • The Bridge speed limit will be reduced to 50km/hour;
  • A reduction in lane widths: 3.3 meters towards Montreal and 3 meters towards Kahnawą:ke;
  • Extension of existing bus lane to allow priority during morning rush hour; and
  • A truck ban during rush hours (5am - 9am and 3pm to 7pm).
A complete closure of the Mercier Bridge may be required overnight on Friday, June 19th to prepare the worksite for mobilization. Motorists are urged to utilize the Champlain or Highway 30 Bridges as alternate routes during the Blitz.

The MCK, JCCBI and MTQ will be working closely together to ensure that information on bridge work is posted in as timely a manner as possible. Motorists can visit Quebec511 , www.mercierbridge.ca and www.kahnawake.com/roadwork for the latest updates as they become available.

The MCK reminds the public that these works are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression, and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
