Chief & Council unanimously sign Declaration of Office

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke wishes to inform the community that the newly-elected Chief & Council unanimously signed the Declaration of Office this morning.  Today marked the first official meeting of the 2015-2018 term of office.
 
Joseph Tokwiro Norton returns to the office of Grand Chief after an eleven year absence. He had previously served as Grand Chief from 1978-2004. Arlene Jacobs also returns to Council for the first time in nine years. The other 10 Chiefs were all incumbents.
 
�We pretty much hit the ground running,� said Grand Chief Norton. �There is a lot to catch up on and a lot of work to do, so the next few weeks are going to be especially busy. Fortunately, there is a lot of consistency at the table. Everyone�s been here before, even Arlene and I.�
 
�I�d like to acknowledge Mike Delisle and Lloyd Phillips for their hard work and dedication for the past several years,� he added. �Lloyd was first elected in 1996 and Mike in 1998, so there is a lot of experience that we have to make up for. We wish them well.�
