Community invited to Tobacco Burning ceremony

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke is inviting the community to a Tobacco Burning ceremony tomorrow morning (Tuesday, July 7th) at 6am to mark the beginning of the 36th Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) being held in Montreal this week.
As this year′s AGM is taking place on Mohawks of Kahnawą:ke traditional territory, a sacred fire will burn at the pow wow grounds on Tekakwitha Island throughout the entire three day event. The ceremony will be conducted by Joe McGregor, with Grand Chief Joe Tokwiro Norton and elders from the AFN in attendance.
The AGM runs from Tuesday, July 7th until Thursday, July 9th at two venues in Montreal - the Hotel Bonaventure and the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel. Information on events can be found at www.afn.ca .
