Weekend closures on Mercier Bridge to prepare for Phase 2 of Blitz

07/09/2015

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke wishes to inform road users that the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated will completely close the 138 down ramp of the Mercier Bridge heading towards Chateauguay on Friday, July 10th at 8pm until Saturday, July 11th at 8am and again that evening from 11:59pm until Sunday, July 12th at 8am.

The closures are necessary to prepare for the changeover to Phase 2 of the Blitz work, where work will be carried out on the Montreal-bound span. The current Phase 1 work was carried out on the Kahnawą:ke-bound span.

On a related note, the contractor has reassured that anyone attending the 25th Annual Echoes of a Proud Nation Pow Wow will have access to one lane in each direction at all times.

In addition to the closure, motorists are reminded that the Blitz configuration will carry on as follows:

-    There will be one lane available in each direction;
-    The Montreal-bound 138 up-ramp from Chateauguay will be closed, with a detour to the 132 up-ramp via the 132 to 138 service road;
-    The 132 to 138 service road will be detoured towards the Old Malone Highway; and
-    Extension of existing bus lane to allow priority during morning rush hour.

The MCK reminds the public that these works are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression, and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
